Meet-The-Parents Sec 1, 8th Jan
Venue : Bethel Hall, PHS
What a good start to the new year!
It was a chance for PSG to meet parents of Sec 1 pupils - to answer queries on PSG's involvement in the school. Interested parents were concerned on the level of presence required of them, if they join the PSG. Do they have to be there at every school event? Is it a must to sit in every PSG meeting?
The answer is, as often as you are able. Every parent who signs up as a PSG member is not expected to be present for every school event, or to attend PSG meeting. But we do hope that each parent would be willing to contribute their time, expertise, and "in-kind" to the school at least once. We also welcome you to observe our meeting.
The contribution each parent gives is a labour of love, for the school, and our children who attend the school. When our children see us in school, helping out in the activities, they know that we are concerned about them.
Every time, we chaperone the pupils to a school outing, we get a precious opportunity to get acquainted with our child and his/her classmates. It is a good time to know the form-teacher.
PSG parents support each other by networking, and sharing our experiences.
Parents can help in areas, where we have the expertise. E.g. teach the pupils to make paper crosages, to be tied around their wrists. You can see a bowl of them in the photo (left). These were originally made by pupils for Teachers' Day last year.

Although the school funds the school events, there are some events, e.g. Parents HugS, which are supported wholly by parents. Mrs Jenny Chin, PSG Chair-person made an appeal on Sat, for funds. There were 3 Parents HugS last year, and the pupils enjoyed them tremendously!
We would like to make an appeal for funds to continue such activities. Please email us at psg@preshigh.edu.sg for the PHS-PSG Appeal Letter. You can make your donation, either in cash or cheque, and submit it to the School General Office. Kindly mark "PSG" at the back of the cheque. Do note that donations of more than $100 are tax-deductible.
We would like to welcome the parents who signed up in the PSG and we look forward to working together in 2011!

In memoriam of George Toh Zheng Xuan, 1st May 2010
Dear parents,

This epitaph he composed of himself :
We remember George Toh Zheng Xuan, who was a student in PHS from 2004 - 2008. He was a student councillor.
George was in a coma for 3 days before succumbing to his injuries, as a result of a car accident. He passed away on 1st May.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family in these times of bereavement.
The trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed (1 Cor 15:52)
Is death the absolute end of human existence? Not according to Benjamin Franklin. While scholars differ as to what he believed, there is no dispute that he believed firmly in the resurrection of the body.
This epitaph he composed of himself :
The body of
B. Franklin, printer,
(like the cover of an old book,
its contents torn out and
stripped of its lettering and gilding)
lies here, food for worms.
But the work shall not be lost,
for it will (as he believed)
appear once more,
in a new and more elegant edition,
revised and corrected
by the Author.
Franklin's epitaph is a picturesque restatement of Paul's affirmation in Phil 3: 20-21 that the risen Lord will transform our corruptible bodies, making them like His own glorious body.
What a comfort this truth is when someone we love dies in the Lord! What a comfort it is for ourselves as we move on moment by moment toward death! But this comfort can be ours only if we believe the good news of the atoning death of Jesus Christ on the cross with its glorious sequel of the empty tomb.
(Vernon C Grounds)
Soar we now where Christ has led,
Following our exalted Head,
Made like Him, like Him we rise -
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies.
Hallelujah!
(C Wesley)
The resurrection assures what Calvary secures.

Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also (Matthew 6:21)
In our secular society, often encouraged are personal and self-interests. In times of recession, society tends to withhold rather than give freely to those in greater need. All of us have a roof over our head, from single- or double-income families; perhaps owning a car, coupled with credit cards and even a domestic helper. While we are the privileged, let’s consider for a moment, those families who have no income, with school-going children, less to say, no credit cards, car and domestic helper. Day-to-day, paying for the utilities’ bill is an issue and putting food on the table is unthinkable.
If your child has a friend, a classmate who falls under the Financially-Assisted (FA) scheme, where his/her family is unable to provide the child with pocket money etc., and if “charity begins at home”, shouldn’t we look more closely as how we can as a “family” within the school community, help these families who are in need? Shouldn’t we send the message across to our own children that “it is blessed to give”?
Each year, the PHS-Parent Support Group raise funds for the FA families, so that each family can have a little something to enjoy during the festive season; be it Chinese New Year, Hari Raya or Deepavali.
We are seeking your support and encouragement to show that we care and would like to share with those in greater need.
If you are able to contribute towards this fund-raising project, please email to us at presbyterianhighpsg@gmail.com and advise your mode of contribution. You can arrange to send a cheque to Äng Lay Kian or a bank transfer to the PSG account 014-7-046598 DBS Saving Plus Account and notify us of the contribution so that we can account for it.
Sincerely,
Alvin Soh

PHS Evening Academy
After such a long school day, these students persevere to put in extra hours for revision or various subjects with their school teachers.
Simply providing a little snack coupled with a drink, continues to energize them and allows them a little study ' break' in-between.
They look forward to have the PSG as part of the Evening Academy, they feel your love, care & concern.
Those of us who are currently working, our energy levels may drop at the end of the work day, but if you keep these photos in mind, consider energizing yourself by serving at the Evening Academy.
For those who are not working, why hesitate? All we require are 2 hours of your evenings.
A duty-roster will be worked out, start volunteering - as many hands make light work!
For more info, email us at presbyterianhighpsg@gmail.com.
The above photos were contibuted by Mr. Ang Lee San (yes, a father!) who has volunteered to serve the students.
COME AND SERVE,
AND NOT BE SERVED!
