Cross Country Run, 9th Mar 2012

The weather was perfect for the run at MacRitchie Reservoir on that morning.
Just after the rain, it was cool - yet not too hot.

Thanks to the sporting parents who came and ran with the students.

Meet-the-Parents, Sec 1, 7th Jan 2012

PSG took the opportunity to be present for the Sec 1's first Meet-the-Parents Session.

There were many parents who were keen to help and there were also many who were concerned that they may not be able to commit their time when they join PSG.

We would like to assure that parents are not expected to devote their time to every activity organised by the school or PSG.  But it is appreciated that for certain activities, e.g. outdoor activities, parents could volunteer to accompany the students.  This would greatly assist the teacher.

If every parent volunteer once, PSG would have no lack of assistance.

After all, PSG strongly believes that time spent with the child, is not time wasted, but an investment.

There are some photos taken.  Please visit our facebook page:

PSG Thank You dinner, 23rd Nov 2011

Dear parents,

It had been  busy year for PSG, as usual.

A thank you and a little get-together was organised to round-up the year, before we take a rest from PSG activities and "re-charge" our batteries for 2012.

It was also a farewell for Alvin & Elicia Soh who served PSG for 4 years, as their daughter graduated in 2011.  Thanks and all the best to both of you, Alvin & Elicia.

We are sure we will still see you around.

Open House, 29th Oct 2011

Venue : at Bethel Hall

PHS held its Open House to show what the school can offer to the prospective Sec 1s.

There were many questions asked by concerned parents.  Is the school good?  How are the teachers?  How do you find the school?  PSG offered our opinion to the best of our experience and knowledge.  They were reassured of the school's emphasis on Character Development, its vision and the dedication of the teachers.

A number of parents left our PSG corner with remarks, "Now we hope the points are enough to get in"...

Please see our Facebook Group page for the rest of the photos.

"Communicating Sexuality to our Teenagers" Parenting Seminar

Date : Sat, 22nd October 2011
Venue: Chapel, AMK Presbyterian Church
(located within Presbyterian High School premises)

Speaker: Paul Tan
              - Married with five children, three of which are teenagers
              - Has a graduate degree in Psychology (emphasis on counselling)
              - A certified facilitator of "No Apologies" programme by Focus on the Family
              - Has published a book on Parenting Teenagers in 2010
              - Is board member of the PHS School Management Committee

Cost : $6 per parent / $10 per couple (non-refundable)

In the news recently, it was reported how even young adults can have misconceptions about their sexuality. They hold certain housewives' tales as true, e.g. using coca-cola to prevent pregnancies etc.

Teenagers, curious on this subject, very often obtain their information on this subject through their friends and via the internet.  However, the best sexual health education begins at home.  We want our teenagers to get the correct information but, very often, parents find it very difficult to bring up and handle this subject.

This Parenting talk is for parents and guardians only. It seeks to give parents a better understanding of how to communicate sexuality to teenagers.

Most importantly, it puts sexuality in the correct perspective - how God intends sexuality to be.

Programme
8.50 am   :  Registration
9.00 am   :  Session 1
   - Why communicate sexualtiy matters to our teenagers.
   - Prepare the teenagers for the onset of puberty.
10.30 am :  Tea-Break
10.45 am :  Session 2
   - How to teach abstinence from sex before marriage to our teenager
   - Guide teenagers to manage undesirable contents in the media and avoid involvement in
      risky behaviours.
12.15 pm :  Question and Answer session.
12.30 pm : End of Programme

Students have been given the circulars, which include participation slips.  Kindly complete and return to teacher with the cash payment.  A nil return on the participation slip is also required, when you not attending the seminar.

Parent HugS #3 - Donuts

Date: 7th Aug 2011

After curry puffs, ice-cream, Subway cookies.... what can we give our kids?  Donuts, of course!

Parents who came to help
We came ready to work.  The donuts were delivered in large brown boxes and each donut came in its individual plastic box.

The students came up to eagerly select their Donut from 5 choices of donut types - Dark Chococcino, Rocky Road, Double Chocolate, Coffee Roasted Almond and Hazelnut Milk Chocolate.

It was certainly a difficult decision for some....

While others, their choice was clear....

After a little "persuasion", the students came in an orderly fashion.

We are happy that the students enjoyed the treat.  The next time, if we decide to give donuts, we will base our next selection on the the most popular flavours (judging from the least favoured types that were not so readily taken.

We are happy that the students enjoyed their donuts.
